Fall and spring semesters

Her Justice seeks a part-time legal administrative intern for the fall and spring semesters. This position requires a commitment of 10–20 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. The position will be based in our headquarter office located in lower Manhattan. 

Internships are unpaid, however interns may apply work-study or school credit to their internship. Students with paralegal skills are especially encouraged to apply.

Her Justice is a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services in family, divorce and immigration law to low-income women living in New York City. Founded in 1993, Her Justice recruits volunteer attorneys from the City’s law firms to stand side-by-side with women who cannot afford to pay for a lawyer, giving them a real chance to obtain legal protections that transform their lives. We believe that all women with urgent safety and financial needs deserve legal representation. Her Justice engages the vast talent and resources of New York City's law firms, bringing together committed lawyers and determined women to secure life-changing results.

Position responsibilities

The legal administrative intern will work under the direction of the Pro Bono Manager and Pro Bono Coordinators of Her Justice. The intern will assist with the administrative upkeep of our legal program and will gain communication skills, basic education in family and immigration law, experience interacting with clients of a law office, general office experience and knowledge on working with a comprehensive database.  Responsibilities will include:

  • Tracking court dates, contacting clients for updates
  • Interns will be trained to use our legal database and will help maintin our database with up-to-date case information
  • Respond to client concerns
  • Assisting with mailings of client surveys and other documents
  • Other responsibilities will vary depending on the individual volunteer’s strengths and interests, and may include conducting initial client intakes


  • Undergraduate student
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills, self-starter, and highly motivated
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Basic computer skills; experience with databases a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
